Select fastening system

What fastening system is right for my window?

Fastening Systems Overview:

The scope of fastening systems available depends on three key factors:

  1. The type of grille selected (e.g. non-surround or full surround)
  2. The depth of the grille profile selected
  3. The material of your window sash

The following guide will help you select the fastening system that’s right for you based on the material composition of your window:

Window Frame Material
Available Fastening Systems
Wood Frame Any of the available fastening systems
Vinyl Clad Frame Dual Lock is strongly recommended
Solid Vinyl Frame Dual Lock is strongly recommended
Aluminum Frame Dual Lock is strongly recommended

Slide Pin:

Slide Pins are the traditional mounting system for grilles with no surround (exposed ends) measuring at least 3/8" deep. Pins are embedded in a plastic housing that rides in a channel cut into the ends of the exposed grille bars. Using the thumb and index finger, the pins are inserted into the window sash, thus securing the grille to the window opening.

Dual Lock:

Dual Lock can be used with all types of grille assemblies. Dual Lock is a transparent 'hook and loop' material that works much like Velcro, but better. One small footprint of this material affixes to the side of the grille that makes contact with the glass. This piece meets a counterpart that affixes directly to the surface of the glass right at the point where the glass meets the window casing. Since it is transparent it is almost completely invisible and because it uses a 'hook and loop' system, the window grilles can be removed (to clean the glass) and put back as many times as you like without damaging your window grille or sash.

1216 Concealed Clip:

Concealed Clips (1216) are used with non-surround window grilles, except those with curves [rectangular windows only]. The window grille bars must measure at least 7/16" in depth. Concealed clips insert between the surface of the glass and the window frame. A small notch is created in the end of the window grille bar and when the window grille is place in the window opening the clips are compressed, thus securing the window grille to the window opening without any visibility of the clip.

014-016 Pins & Grommets:

Pins and grommets (014 & 016) are used with full-surround grilles only. The grommets are pre-installed into the full surround. With the full surround window grille in the window opening, simply insert the pins through the grommets for a secure flush mount.

1212 Concealed Clip:

Can only be used with the following full surround profiles: SR1002, SR4002, SR4003 and SR7001. Concealed clips insert between the surface of the glass and the window frame. When the full surround window grille is placed in the window opening the clips are compressed, thus securing the window grille to the window opening without any visibility of the clip. Ideal for most modern window openings with a soft glazing.

1213 Concealed Clip:

Can only be used with the following full surround profiles: SR1002, SR4002, SR4003 and SR7001. Concealed clips insert directly into the window frame. When the full surround window grille is placed in the window opening the clips are compressed, thus securing the window grille to the window opening without any visibility of the clip. Ideal for older windows with a hardened putty glazing.

1203 Concealed Clip:

Can only be used with the following full surround profiles: SR4008 and SR9002. Concealed clips insert between the surface of the glass and the window frame. When the full surround window grille is placed in the window opening the clips are compressed, thus securing the window grille to the window opening without any visibility of the clip.
